Your photographs live on a phone. Thousands of them. Maybe tens of thousands.
You've meant to do something with them for years — a book, a slideshow, something. But the camera roll kept growing. And the photographs, for all their beauty, began to feel like a debt.
A photograph is a small piece of evidence that something happened. A memory is what you do with that evidence — the stories you tell, the object you pick up on a hard afternoon because it reminds you a soft one is coming.
Saudade is the object. A book, hand-bound, made to be kept. Where your photographs become a story someone else can hold.
THE PHOTOS EXIST. NOW THE STORY DOES TOO.
A Keeper keeps the menu from the restaurant in Rome. The ticket from the show. The leather bag they bought once and have carried for a decade. They know the word for what a place smells like when you leave it.
Keepers take photographs for the same reason they keep everything else — to hold on to the shape of something worth remembering.
If that sounds like you, this was made for you.
Begin your VolumeSaudade is a hand-bound photo book, made to order. You send us your photographs. We design the pages in the Press Room in Chicago. We print them on archival paper, sew them into a hardcover, and stamp the cover in foil with the Saudade wordmark.
It arrives in 14 to 21 days, in a correspondence-style mailer built to be opened slowly.
It is, by design, an heirloom. Not a photo product.

The Curation
We lay out every page in the Press Room in Chicago. You receive a proof of the whole Volume before anything is printed. One round of revisions is standard.
The Making
Once approved, the Volume enters production. Printed on archival paper, sewn by hand, bound in your chosen cover, and foil-stamped. Fourteen to twenty-one days.
The Arrival
The Volume ships in a correspondence-style mailer — parchment, ink, a hand-stamped seal. Inside, the book is tissue-wrapped alongside a letterpress manifesto card, a bonus print from your submission, and a few small gifts.

A note from Noah
"I started Saudade because I watched someone I loved take too long to sort through a box of photographs. The box was older than me. She remembered every face in it. But she had never been able to give the photographs back to the people in them — as a story, as an object, as something anyone else could hold.
I wanted to make a book that gave people permission to make the story — without needing to design anything themselves. The photographs are the Keeper's work. The book is mine.
Every Volume is made to order. Nothing is stocked. Each one is a one-time object, made for one person. That is the nature of the work."

The question we hear most is how we compare to the photo books a camera-roll app makes.
